International Lego Classicism Day Projects
Every year, on the 20th of February, people around the world contribute to International Lego Classicism Day.
Devised and led by the Brick Classicists Empire, ILCD is a celebration of the ancient world (any culture!) through Lego.
ILCD is open to anyone (just join in on the day with the hashtag #ILCD, on the social media platform of your choice!), but there is also a Pantheon of official contributors, and I’ve been lucky enough to be part of that for the last few years.
It’s possible that most years I get a bit carried away…!
Below are my projects, which span a range of my classical interests from local sites to Minotaurs to ancient drama. Enjoy! Maybe they’ll inspire you to take on your own weird classical Lego build…
2025: The Bookshop of Lost Books
2024: Lego Muppets Aristophanes’ Frogs
2023: Minotaur story and Labyrinth
2022: a video about the Temple of Antenociticus
2021: a book about Robert Blair, the South Shields solicitor who was instrumental in bringing about the excavation of Arbeia Roman Fort
2020: on Princess Claudia of Britain
2019: a mini-epic about Barates of Palmyra

Brick Classicists Empire
The Brick Classicists Empire (or BCE, formerly known as the Lego Classicist) organises International Lego Classicism Day every February, and also creates Lego minifigure portraits which celebrate the work of classicists, historians, ancient world game designers, museum professionals, and other experts. Each Lego Classicist portrait is individually designed and sent as a gift to its subject. I was presented with mine in 2019, and it’s wonderful!
Do take a look at the work of BCE if you’re interested in the serious use of Lego in Higher Education.

Legonium
Another of my favourite Lego sites is Legonium, which focuses on learning Latin through Lego. The free resources available on the site are fabulous! It’s a tremendous resource for teachers and students – and there are associated books to buy which are an absolute pleasure to use.
My favourite section of the site is the Lists (in Latin) of everything from James Bond films to Elvis songs!
