It’s that time again, when people across social media, from all over the world, spend a month posting Classics Stuff in response to the #ClassicsTober daily prompts.

Speaking of prompts, this year’s theme is Katabasis, and here is the prompt list:

You can find out more about #ClassicsTober2025, and read the prompt list in text form, on the GreekMythComix ClassicsTober page.

Do join in with the daily prompts, and post whatever you’d like to contribute – artwork, poetry, music, photographs, translations, artefacts or anything else – on the social media platform of your choice, tagged with #ClassicsTober! And if you’re not able to do that, please do share and amplify other people’s posts. Let’s make the internet a happy classical place for the next month!

Also on the ClassicsTober theme, here’s a lovely freebie for you…

Last year’s ClassicsTober led to a collaboration between some of the participating artists, in the form of the Sing, O Muse! zine. This year even more artists got together and produced a second zine, Chthonic Visions, to tie in with #ClassicsTober2025 – and from today it’s available for purchase or free download!

You can download the digital version of Chthonic Visions for free (just enter a zero every time it mentions payment, and put in your email address), or for a limited time you can buy a print version, and all proceeds from that go to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

It was such a joy to be involved in the project (you’ll spot one of my illustrations in there!) – not just because the final product is fabulous, but because all year there’s been a discussion group where the artists have been learning about myth, sharing drafts and sketches, and generally talking about the ancient world. Chthonic Visions really is a product of Classics community-building, and it’s been lovely to watch it take shape.

I’m taking a step back from #ClassicsTober this year (for reasons which I’ll explain in due course…), but am leaving it in very capable hands. Hopefully I’ll manage to do a few illustrations later in the month, because I’m struggling to resist the spooky prompts!
